Rod Wright Democrat for State Senate -
A Champion for our Schools and Children

Most politicians ask for your vote based on what they say.  I ask for your vote based on what I accomplished.  Talk is cheap, accomplishments are rare.

I was elected and served in the California State Assembly from 1996 to 2002.  During that period I passed nearly 100 pieces of legislation, 75 of which were signed into law.   My legislation covered a wide range of issue areas including public safety, career education, renewable energy and foster care, just to name a few.    As a result of my work and legislative record I was recognized as one of the most effective legislators in Sacramento and was named ”Legislator of The Year” by the County of Los Angeles, the Municipal Power Association, the California Chief Probation Officers and the Career Technical Education Teachers Association.

In addition to my legislative accomplishments on major public policy issues, I actively work to elect good Democrats to office.  As an integral part of the team that took back the House of Representatives from the Republicans in 1996, I actually coordinated field efforts for two of those campaigns.  As a grassroots activist I served as the President of the New Frontier Democratic Club, a member of the Democratic County Committee, a member of the Executive Board of the California Democratic Party and Vice Chair of the Black Caucus.

I do not believe in talk, I believe in action.  I was at the front lines with the Teamsters Union to secure better working conditions and cleaner air for those who live and work in the ports; walked the picket line with Hotel Workers who are fighting for their rights along Century Boulevard near LAX; and marched with the Security Officers who protect office buildings and other facilities in their quest to obtain fair pay and benefits.

As your State Senator I will continue this record of service.  I will fight to ensure the State is a FULL partner in solving the health care crisis that threatens our community, particularly the losses of Martin Luther King and Robert F. Kennedy Hospitals as well as the reductions in service at Daniel Freeman and Centinela Hospitals.

With your help I will continue the fight to ensure our state provides the level of funding our schools need to provide a world-class education to our children.  As a recognized leader in renewable and alternative energy policy, I will fight to make sure California effectively uses its resources to protect our environment.

I will provide the leadership and vision needed to move our community forward in these challenging times.  I am excited about the prospect of working with a Democrat in the White House and a new Democratic Governor to accomplish great things together.

Thank you for taking the time to browse through this web page.  With your help I look forward to serving you again in the State Legislature.

Sincerely,

Roderick "Rod" Wright
